How to use
- Choose a category: length, weight, temperature, area, speed, volume or data.
- Pick the unit you are starting from and type a value.
- Every other unit in that category is converted immediately in the table below.
- Tap any row to copy that value to the clipboard.
Frequently asked questions
How exact are the conversion factors?
They are the defined values, not rounded approximations: an inch is exactly 0.0254 m, a pound is exactly 453.59237 g, and one pyeong is exactly 400/121 m². Converting back and forth therefore returns the value you started with.
How many decimal places are shown?
Significant digits adapt to the size of the value, and very large or very small results switch to exponential notation. The display is rounded but the underlying arithmetic uses the full double-precision value.
Is a KB 1000 bytes or 1024 bytes?
KB, MB, GB and TB here are binary multiples (1024, the KiB family). Storage manufacturers advertise decimal multiples of 1000, so the two do not agree — keep that in mind when comparing drive capacities.
Why is temperature handled differently from the other categories?
Each temperature scale has its own zero point, so a single multiplication cannot convert between them. Values are converted through Celsius rather than through a proportional factor.
About the Unit converter
A unit converter earns its keep the moment two measurement systems meet: inches and pounds on an overseas shop, Fahrenheit in a recipe, square metres against acres in a property listing. Entering one value here shows every unit in that category at once, so you do not have to decide the target unit first.
Linear categories convert through a base unit — metres for length, grams for weight — which keeps the number of formulas constant as units are added and minimises round-trip error.
Data-size conversion comes up with upload limits, data plans and backup sizing. Bits and bytes are listed separately so transfer speed (bps) and file size (B) do not get confused.
