What changes at the counter
- The rate here is the market midpoint. A bank's cash buy rate sits above it and its cash sell rate below it, and the gap is the bank's margin.
- Paying by card abroad applies the network's rate on the settlement date plus roughly 1% in network fees and whatever the issuer adds. Choosing to be billed in your home currency (DCC) adds another 3–8%, so pay in the local currency.
- Rates refresh once a day, so they will not match an intraday quote. For a large transfer, check your bank's published rate.

Frequently asked questions
Why does this differ from my bank's rate?
This is the mid-market rate — the midpoint between buying and selling. A bank sells you currency above it and buys below it, and that gap is its margin. It runs from about 1.5% on major currencies to 10% on thin ones.
How often do the rates update?
The provider refreshes once a day, and the page shows which day the rates are from. That will not match an intraday quote, so check a live rate before a large transfer.
What rate applies when I pay by card abroad?
The card network's rate on the settlement date, not the purchase date, plus roughly 1% in network fees and whatever your issuer adds. Decline the offer to be billed in your home currency — that dynamic conversion adds another 3–8%.
What fee should I enter?
Bank cash exchange on major currencies is about 1.5–1.75%. A card abroad works out closer to 1.2–1.5%. Leave it at zero to see the mid-market figure alone.
Is my amount sent anywhere?
No. Your browser fetches a table of rates and does the arithmetic locally. The amount and the currencies you pick are never transmitted.
About the Currency converter
A currency converter is needed the moment a price is quoted in a currency you do not think in: a travel budget, an overseas order, a transfer to settle. This page fetches today's rates in your browser and converts between any two of 28 currencies.
Rates arrive quoted against the US dollar and every other pair is computed as a cross rate. A dollar-based table keeps enough significant digits for small units — a won-based table would quote the dollar as 0.00069 and lose precision on the way back.
What decides the real cost is the spread, not the headline rate. Entering a fee shows the mid-market figure and the amount that actually arrives side by side, which turns a percentage into money.
If the rate provider cannot be reached, the page falls back to a snapshot bundled with the site and says so, along with the date it was taken. A stale rate is never presented as a current one.
